From 2017-2020 I worked as the Assistant to the Director (our school's way of saying Stage Manager) for Conestoga High School's Theatre Department. I helped produce the plays The Crucible, The Miracle Worker, and The Man Who Came To Dinner, and the musicals Nice Work if You Can Get It, Pippin, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
I worked with both department staff and students thorughout the production, and played a vital role in refining the show.
My respobilities included:
- Logging blocking
- Assisting performers with lines/directions during rehearsals
- Conferring with director on all aspects of performance
- Acting as liaison between director, faculty department heads, and stage crew
- Managing timing of shows and intermissions
- Recruiting, training, and managing ushers
Nice Work if You Can Get It and Joesph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat both won best musical at The Cappies, an award program that highlights bright talent in theater and journalism. All Conestoga productions also received various awards and nominations for best lead or supporting actor/actress, and excellent lighting, sound, and set design.
My senior year, I was tasked with choosing and training a successor. I created applications, held interviews, and discussed with both the play and musical directors on the candidate I thought best fit the role. Then, I trained them for the remainder of the year, leading them through all aspects of their resposibilities and facets of the productions.
